Ceramic Process
What makes Wood Folk's ceramic pieces unique?
At Wood Folk, every ceramic piece is truly handmade — shaped, painted, and finished entirely by hand. We never use molds, slip casting, or underglaze transfers, so no two pieces will ever be alike.

Our mugs, plates, and bowls begin on the pottery wheel. The clay is thrown to form the body, then carefully trimmed to refine the shape and bottom. While the piece is still leather hard, the real magic begins — this is when I paint underglaze designs, handbuild attachments like handles, sculpt tiny mushrooms, or even transform a mug into an owl.

Once the sculpting is done, the piece dries a bit more, and I add color using underglaze — including hand-painting every single mushroom spot one by one. The piece then dries completely before heading into its first kiln firing.

After the initial firing, I glaze each piece by hand, giving it a smooth, food-safe finish and bringing out the richness of the colors. A second firing locks in the glaze, and the piece is finally ready to be loved and used for years to come.
